The most expensive spice in the world, saffron is none other than the dried purple flower pistil of a variety of Crocus, Crocus Sativus. It takes more than 150,000 flowers to produce 1 kg of saffron, which must be harvested by hand and especially early in the morning before the dew damages them. This explains the price of this spice.
Our saffron powder goes wonderfully with savory dishes (rice, pasta, broths, fish, white meats) and sweet dishes (sandwiches, madeleines) enhancing the taste of the food and giving it a golden yellow color.
It is added in small pinches, as a small dose is enough to flavor and color a dish or dessert.

Our advice: add saffron halfway through cooking because it takes some time to develop its aromas, while prolonged cooking dissipates them.
