The Jalapenos are native to southern Mexico and are named after the city of Jalapa in Veracruz. Jalapenos have become the most popular pepper variety in Europe due to their fruity spiciness and versatility of use. The productive plant forms fruits up to 9 cm long, very juicy with clearly rounded tips. Unripe fruits are mostly green and turn bright red when ripe. Jalapeno peppers generally range from 5,000 to 25,000 on the Scoville scale, depending on ripening, cultivation, and processing. They are particularly popular in Tex-Mex cuisine and shouldn’t be missing from any dish.

When smoked, it is known as chipotle pepper.

Jalapenos go well with cheese, in meat dishes like chili con carne or goulash, in barbecue sauces or in homemade wraps. Dried and flaky, it can be sprinkled on salads, fish, grilled meats, etc., both at the last minute and during a long stew.
