Alpine salt is, as its name suggests, rock salt, deeply buried under the imposing rock strata of the Alps. The salt dome formed as a thick layer of salt more than 250 million years ago due to climatic and geological changes caused by the drying up of a primeval ocean.
For centuries, this natural alpine salt has been extracted by miners exclusively from the best natural salt deposits where the salt is purest. Already in the Bronze Age, salt from the Alps was transported through trade routes to much of Europe and was a coveted and valuable commodity. Even today, rock salt is extracted pure and unchanged, mainly by hand, from the salt gallery.
Alpine salt convinces with its pleasantly mild taste and its gray-red appearance. Thanks to the many minerals it contains, this natural salt is particularly suitable for all kinds of meat dishes.
